A Quick Comparison between Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) and P6 EPPM.

1.      Enterprise Structure:
a)      EPS replaced with newly introduced Workspace.
b)     OBS replaced with security to access to the workspace.
c)      Code and UDFs options are available similar to P6 EPPM with some additional codes i.e (report code)
d)     The default business flow helps to sync the data between P6 and OPC, which help to transfer the EPS and Workspace structures between the applications.

2.      Resource Master
a)      Not sure about the intention of the resource breakdown design at different Workspace level and related promotion option. From my point of view, Resource master always global data should be available at the enterprise level.
b)     Default business flow help to transfer the Resource master from/to Primavera P6 EPPM.
c)      No standard business flow available to transfer the resource master from other ERPs (example – SAP HR), whereas standard business flow available in P6 EPPM. Custom Integration is required to fulfill such requirements using REST APIs or Primavera Gateway.

3.      Project Initiation – The idea is the feature helps to manage the investment plan. This excellent feature is almost the same as OPPM (Oracle Primavera Portfolio management). Hence no need to buy separate products to manage Investment management.

4.      Project Planning & Costing
a)      There are five types of activity types in OPC – Activity-Dependent, Resource Dependent, Start Milestone, Finish Milestone, Level of Effort.
b)     WBS Summary Activity type is completely removed in the version.
c)      Easily transfer the data between P6 and OPC through standard business flows d)     The standard Import/Export XML option also helps to transfer the data between P6 and OPC
e)     The inbuilt Schedule sheet, Cost Sheet, CBS structure help to manage the costing.
f)       No standard business flows to transfer the data from ERPs(SAP PM, SAP PS, Oracle EBS, etc) and a product like Unifier, Ecosys, etc.

5.      Scheduling & Schedule Check
a)     Almost the same as P6.
b) 14 point DCMA, Schedule log are available same as P6 EPPM

6.      Collaboration
a)      Inbuilt team member application (Timesheet) helps to communicate and collect the progress from users, whereas in P6 EPPM this is separately licensed.

7.      Contractor Collaboration
a)      Primavera XML, Microsoft Project is supported. We can transfer the data from those applications.
b)     Not sure about the Excel Import/Export. Need to validate. (Excel Import/Export is available)

8.      Risk Analysis
a)      A full-fledged integrated risk management capability available.
b)     Activity uncertainty, Monte Carlo Simulation are available
c)      I can say this the Web Version of the Old Pertmaster tool (Primavera Risk Analysis)
Whereas, in P6 EPPM we need to integrate with other Risk Analysis tools i.e PRA, Crystal Ball, Proscient, etc. for complete risk analysis.

9.      Integration
a)      The standard business flow between P6 EPPM and OPC is available.
b)     Primavera Gateway and REST API are the other options to integrate with other applications and ERPs.
c)      No standard business flows are available for the other integrations.
d)     Whereas, P6 EPPM multiple integration options and business flows available to integrate with ERPs and other applications, i.e. SAP PM, SAP PS, SAP MM, SAP HR, Oracle EBS, EAM, JD Edwards, IBM Maximo, Navisworks, Smart plant Constructions. This list based on my integration experience and the list could be more.
e)     However, not fair to compare 38 years old one with a newborn baby

10.  Resource Analysis
a)      Almost same as P6.

11.  Portfolio
a)      I haven’t seen the P6 EPPM Portfolio capabilities in the OPC version, i.e., portfolio analysis, Capacity planning, Performance Status

12.  Leaner schedule, Programs are the other excellent features introduced in the OPC version.

13.  Reports – Inbuilt BI Publisher based reports available, whereas in P6 EPPM this is separately licensed.
